Employment Opportunities: Senior Engineer - Mechanical Systems

Under the direction of the Manager of Mechanical Engineering, the position of Sr. Mechanical Systems Engineer requires a strong, motivated and detailed individual who can independently make decisions on mechanical systems engineering problems and methods. The Sr. Mechanical System Engineer must also be able to communicate effectively with co-workers, customers and the FAA to plan work and resolve technical issues.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

  1. B.S. in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering (preferred), and 5 years related experience, or ten (10) years related experience.
  2. 2. Strong command of the methodologies, specifications, components, and materials used in the design and certification of:
    • Air Conditioning Systems
    • Pneumatic Systems
    • Fire Protection Systems
    • Oxygen Systems
    • Potable Water Systems
    • Gray Water Systems
    • Vacuum Waste Systems
    • Fuel Systems (a plus but not required)
    • Hydraulic Systems (a plus but not required)
  3. Direct experience in producing and/or checking the test plans and substantiation reports used in the certification of mechanical systems. Understanding of the methodologies used to generate Fault Hazard Assessments (FHA), Failure Mode Effects Analysis (FMEA) and Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) preferred.
  4. Strong command of classical thermal-fluid analysis techniques preferred.
  5. Knowledge of industry practices and regulations including CARs, JARs, FARs, Advisory Circulars and Orders. The ability to qualify for the position of DER or DAS AR preferred.
  6. Interpersonal skills necessary to work effectively with a wide variety of individuals, departments and organizations, both internal and external.
  7. Computer literacy in PC operations including networking and working knowledge of computer-aided design programs, including ACAD (required), Solid Works (Preferred) MS Project, Word, and Excel.
  8. Excellent knowledge of Executive VIP Interior Completions aircraft preferred.
  9. Ability to conceptualize, plan, and execute technical programs.
  10. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  11. Ability to travel domestically and internationally (passport will be required) as necessary to perform the job functions defined herein.

SPECIFIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Plan, organize, coordinate, and control the tasks and junior engineers for which he has been delegated responsibility. Act as Project Manager for projects that are Mechanical Systems specific.

    Initial Engineering Bid – A Sr. Mechanical System Engineer will carry out the following tasks:

    • Assist the Mechanical Engineering Manager and applicable Project Manager in Producing an Initial Rough Order of Magnitude (ROM) quotation.
    • Participate in initial meetings with the Customer.
    • Assist the Mechanical Engineering Manager in generating:
      • a preliminary detailed engineering bid, which will remain Company Confidential using the standard CI bid format
      • a resource plan, which will remain Company Confidential using the standard CI format.
      • a Tier 1 Schedule.
      • a Preliminary Statement of Work (SOW) using the standard CI format an including the following:
        • – Preliminary Summary Engineering Bid
        • – Proposed Tier 1 Schedule
        • – Proposed Deliverables from Customer to CI
        • – Proposed Deliverables from CI to Customer
    • Evaluate and aggressively pursue any opportunities within the project to provide product.

    Project Detail Definition – Upon invitation of the Customer to proceed to the next phase, the Sr. Mechanical Systems Engineer will be responsible for the following tasks:

    • Participate in the Initial Technical Coordination Meeting (ITCM).
    • After full understanding of the project scope assist in finalizing the detailed engineering bid, which will remain company confidential.
    • After full understanding of the project scope assist in finalizing the summary engineering bid to be presented to the Customer in the form of Firm Fixed Pricing.
    • When required obtain sub-contractor quotations for work packages.

    Project Launch – Kick-Off – Upon Contract Award and receipt of Initial Payment the a Sr. Mechanical Systems Engineer will be responsible for the following tasks:

    • Initiating the design, analysis, and certification tasks for which they are responsible.

    Follow-On Project Milestones – Participate in the following Project Milestones:

    • Preliminary Design Review
    • Critical Design Review
    • Certification Review
    • Final Testing, Certification Completion
  2. Provide solutions to complex problems which require the regular use of ingenuity and innovation.
  3. Work without appreciable direction. Exercise considerable latitude in determining objectives and approaches to achieving assigned design/certification objectives.
  4. Provide technical leadership with respect to design, manufacturing and production overview on assigned engineered products and other related activities.
  5. Direct the technical activities of the engineering group (as delegated by the Manager of Mechanical Engineering) to support customer specifications, processes and production support in multiple locations.
  6. Provide leadership and technical expertise to the management and marketing/sales organizations for goals and objectives, and standardization.
  7. Convey information concisely (both orally and written) without loss of necessary detail to individuals at all levels with varied backgrounds.
  8. Compile and present timely and accurate reports on areas of responsibility to management.
  9. Observe company rules and regulations, including housekeeping, and proper and safe use of operating equipment.
  10. Coordinate with all engineering groups to ensure deliverables are of utmost quality, to support production needs of clients.
  11. Provide timely schedule updates.
  12. Retain and develop relationships with existing and new customers/clients.
  13. Support all company activities at Tulsa office, which may require travel to and from in short notice.
  14. Perform other related duties as assigned.

  2. Occasional exposure to aircraft engine noise and fumes.
  3. Occasional exposure to seasonal weather.
